A Trip to My Local Thrift Store and What Do I Find?!

Remember a couple of weeks ago I said, I found something
at the thrift store I'd share with you later...well this is it!
I wasn't even looking for new dishes, well okay I was, but
I was shopping for plain white, (they don't even have to
match), but what should I spot??? But the most beautiful vintage
China dishes with the sweetest little flower boarders with white
centers and a large rim of the prettiest pale yellow I've ever
seen...but again, (reminding myself), even though
they were truly gorgeous, I was ONLY looking for
plain white dishes for everday.

and then...

just around the corner,
I saw a beautiful platter,
and a bowl,
another platter ...

YOU Guessed it,

they matched the dinner plates I'd just seen...

OMG!
telling myself, I don't really need these...
Really I don't,
truly
I
don't,

but
they're
to
die
for
gorgeous

~*~

I went back and loaded up the dinner plates and started
looking through the smaller plates and bowls and sure
enough, there was the whole set, everything but cups
and saucers...before I knew it I had a shopping cart
full of a beautiful  'Sampy' China set (stamped made in Japan).

~such a sweet pattern~

large bowls and small fruit bowls (or cups)

dessert plates and a gorgeous platter

small platter, sugar bowl and creamer

...and the next day,

my friend Pattie found four
cups & saucers and the bread plates
whilst browsing through 'OUR FAVORITE'
thrift store! Needless to say, she sped
drove over to my school to let me
know I should go back to the thrift
store after work to check out the dishes
that they'd just put out, that went with my set!
And the best part of this thrifting story is...
I took all the dishes up to the teller and had
them hold them while I drove home to
pick up the two boxes of items I had
ready for the thrift store (and had forgotten to
load up), I traded them for a 20% discount
that I was able to use on my NEW dishes!!! YAY!

I just love them, but now I'm thinking I need would love a new
china hutch with a glass door and maybe a light
to show off my new set of dishes!
 It doesn't hurt to DREAM!

Those are gorgeous dishes. Do you think you could take the panels out of your hutch you have now, and put glass in.. Or just take the doors off all together... put those little tiny peel and stick lights that come on when you wave your hand under them.. they don't go off until you do the same. Just to show off that beautiful china, until you can get a new Hutch.. Just a thought... Sheila

They are so pretty and how cool is it that your friend found what you needed elsewhere! That is so neat. I love the floral motif on these!

Beautiful china! Don't you just love when you find something that makes your heart go pitter-patter? And then your heart beats a little faster when you realize what a bargain you just got?!

Hi Debbie!
I am so glad you are my new friend :)
I LOVE these sweet dishes, they made me smile as soon as I scrolled down to see them.
What a blessing to have been able to find not only one group of dishes at one place, but MORE (and a friend who just happened to be there) at another place! Wow!
Love days like that!
I like the hutch they are in now- it's pretty! Or do what Sheila suggested?
Have a wonderful, sunny, fun, full day!

Sheila, my MacGiver said the same thing about taking the doors off! Our home is very small and the dining room is quite tiny, so removing the doors will probably happen soon(they're in the way)! I looove your suggestion with the lights too, thank you so much for visiting and all your AWESOME ideas! xo Deb~

I love your dishes!!!! And the story that went with them was a hoot too. I just bought a whole set of white ironstone dishes from my local thrift store for $15.00. Service for 8. All that was missing was 1 salad plate & 1 tea cup. And it didn't come with any bowls. But I can live with that. My hubby just rolled his eyes as I already have about 4 other sets of white dishes. I just can't pass them up. That is probably why you can't find any. lol. Anyhoo, thanks for visiting my blog & leaving me a comment on my hutch makeover. And have a Happy Easter!

I just found your blog through Finding Fabulous. I live in the Seattle area, too. I'm wondering what your favorite thrift store is? I'm loving the Goodwill in Lynnwood right now and St. Vincent de Paul as well.

i just found your blog while looking up sampy pieces that were given to me. i'm not a collector of any sort and i am thinking of selling this set at my garage sale soon. My question is what should i ask for these dishes my set consists of 12 dinner plates,12 salad plates,12 bread plates,12 soup bowls,12 cups and saucers, 1 large serving platter,1 small serving platter, 1large serving dish with lid, 1 small serving dish, 1 gravy boat,1 butter dish, and 5 little bowl that i think are for condiments. any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
